Venue:

Nagarhole National Park, near Mysore, is one of the brightest jewels of the Western Ghats. The birth of Nagarhole National Park can be traced by the stretching area of 258 sq km when it was a hunting reserve for the Maharajas of Mysore. Nagarhole – now remains a showcase for the wealth of the Western Ghats to thousands of visitors from around the world, every year.

Kabini:

The largest river in the Nagarhole National Park – Kabini, running along the southern boundary, was dammed in 1974 for an irrigation project. The reservoir is now the life-giving source for the park during the dry months, attracting a huge gathering of elephant herds, forming the single largest congregation of Asiatic elephants anywhere in the world. The park is also packed with predators – notably tigers, leopards and wild dogs (dholes), thanks to the reservoir sustaining a healthy prey base with large population of herbivores like Gaurs, Sambar deers and Chitals (Spotted Deer).

The experience:

A bio-diversity hotspot, Kabini promises excellent opportunities to witness some of India’s best wildlife. Topping it all is the rush and excitement of spotting the spotty – the Leopard. Elegant, secretive and elusive, sighting this highly camouflaged big cat on a tree branch is the highlight of a jungle safari in Kabini*. It requires skill, patience and most importantly- luck.
